Music Notes - July 10
On Sunday morning at 10:45 am Sue Vines and Cathie Buschek perform a witty set of piano pieces at the prelude and postlude. These pieces by Gabriel Faure are entitled, “Dolly”, a collection of six piano four-hand duets that, like Robert Schumann’s “Scenes from Childhood” (for solo piano), reflex childhood experiences. The preludes portray the innocence of a garden full of flowers and the child Dolly’s lullaby. The buoyant postlude, “Mi-a-ou” is often mistakenly attributed to a family cat. The title actually refers to two-year-old Dolly’s attempt to say her brother’s name, “Monsieur Raoul.” These wonderful pieces are played on our new piano recently purchased by Friends of Music. This Yamaha 5C-3 piano is an upgrade and will permit not only better piano sounds for worship but also attract piano artists in forthcoming concerts. The previous piano has been moved to the undercroft and the piano it replaced is now available for sale.
In July, beautiful special music at the prelude, anthems and communion will be offered by our talented parish musicians: Katy and Rich Williams, Bryan Sable, our Music Assistant, Sam Viggiano (who sang so beautifully at his sister’s June Ordination to the Deaconate), Kathleen Hendricks with choir in Vivaldi’s “Domine deus” from Gloria, Susan Vines and Cathie Buschek in works for Piano-four hands, Alice Lee in an aria from Bach’s St. John Passion, Chris Thompson singing an American Spiritual, and Ginnie Schaap in voice and on piccolo!
