Meet our new Senior Warden
The senior lay official in an Episcopal parish is called the Senior Warden, admittedly an archaic term to describe this position. The Senior Warden is a member of the Vestry, another obscure term that roughly equates to the board of directors of the parish. As you know, new Vestry members were recently elected at our Annual Meeting: Jon Delano, Karen Schneider, Pat Eagon Stafford, and Ell Vines. Each year the Rector, another somewhat obscure term roughly equating to Senior Pastor, appoints the Senior Warden from among the members of the Vestry.
Mark Vito has served well and faithfully as Senior Warden for the past two years, and has decided to take on another assignment on the Vestry. We want to thank Mark for his service and look forward to his new contributions in a different capacity.
The Rector has appointed Jon Delano to serve as our Senior Warden this year. While newly elected, Jon has served two previous terms on the Vestry. He most recently has chaired St. Paul’s Worship Committee and performs the herculean task of coordinating and scheduling the Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors (readers) for all of our many worship services. Jon and his wife, Jane, and adult children Katie and Ben have been a part of the St. Paul’s community for many years. Jon has also served in important leadership positions with the Diocese, including as a member of the Standing Committee (one of three governing bodies of the Diocese), a deputy to Annual Convention, and deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, our highest-level governing body.
Please join us in thanking Mark for his service, and congratulating and thanking Jon for taking on this critical assignment.Tags: Messenger February 2016
