A beautiful piece of St. Paul's history
Lou received the following letter just the other day and thought all would enjoy reading it...
My name is Edgar Epperson. In 1990 I directed a financial campaign for your church. Father Pickering was the Rector. This was one of my most pleasant experiences and it was such a pleasure and honor to have worked with Father Pickering and to have known him and many of your congregation on a personal basis.
The campaign was concluded on June 3, 1990; that was my last day there. During the worship hour the church presented me with the very unique stained glass that is enclosed here. It was given to me in appreciation for my efforts there. And i know it was a great honor to have received one of these rare pieces. It has hung by my front door and for the past twenty-six years I told all who entered my house about that little piece of artwork and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
What was most interesting about this gift that I want to share with you is this: St. Paul's was founded on June 3, 1930*, as is noted on the stained glass. My birthday was also June 3, 1930. On June 3, 1930, St. Paul's was celebrating its 60th birthday as was I!
I, like your church, am approaching 86 years. Now I must move into smaller quarters and all that entails. I won't leave this beautiful little remembrance to some garage sale after I'm gone, so I thought it best to return it to its first home.
I trust it to your care. May God bless you and St. Paul's.
Sincerely yours,
Ed Epperson
